The Holocaust as a Starting Point este un program internațional dezvoltat de Mémorial de la Shoah (Paris, Franța) și partenerii săi începând din 2015. Acesta constă în cursuri de formare regională și transnațională pentru profesori, cu scopul de a dezvolta cooperarea la nivel regional. În fiecare an, aproximativ 500 de profesori au ocazia să-și dezvolte cunoștințele despre educația privind Holocaustul și competențele pedagogice pentru a face față creșterii antisemitismului și a discriminării.
O analiză a contextelor din diverse state europene indică faptul că multe dintre diviziunile care separă Europa astăzi sunt direct legate de cel de-al Doilea Război Mondial și, în special, de Holocaust. Considerând Holocaustul ca punct de plecare al formărilor noastre, putem aborda probleme contemporane sensibile (istorii negative comune, amintiri divergente și/sau conflictuale) și putem furniza dovezi științifice pentru a contracara narațiunile politice.
Susținut de o rețea europeană de aproximativ 30 de parteneri (ministere, instituții culturale, asociații de profesori etc.), programul „The Holocaust as a Starting Point” va dezvolta diverse programe de formare pe parcursul anului 2025.
În perioada 7-9 noiembrie, la Budapesta a avut loc cea de-a doua ediție a cursului de formare „The Holocaus as a Starting Point”, un dialog ungaro-român. Co-organizat de Institutul Național pentru Studiul Holocaustului din România, Fundația Zachor (Ungaria) și Mémorial de la Shoah (Franța), seminarul a reunit 37 de educatori din Ungaria și România.
Programul formare a fost dedicată profesorilor cu cunoștințe de bază în domeniul educației despre Holocaust. Lectorii s-au concentrat pe furnizarea participanților a elementelor cheie pentru o mai bună înțelegere a Holocaustului și a evoluției sale în Europa, și mai precis în Ungaria și România. O sesiune întreagă a fost dedicată apogeului Holocaustului sub autoritatea română din vara anului 1941.
În a doua zi a programului de formare, întregul grup a participat la o vizită ghidată la sinagoga și cartierul evreiesc din Budapesta, fapt ce le-a permis participanților să afle să cunoască fragmente din viața evreilor din Budapesta și a comunității în timpul celui de-al Doilea Război Mondial.
Dezvoltarea acestui progra, de formare a fost posibilă datorită sprijinului financiar al Claim`s Conference.

What is the “Holocaust as a starting point”?
The Holocaust as a Starting Point is an international program developed by the Mémorial de la Shoah (Paris, France) and its partners since 2015. It consists in regional and transnational teacher trainings, striving to develop cooperation on a regional basis. Each year, about 500 teachers have the opportunity to develop their knowledge on Holocaust education and their pedagogical skills to confront the rise of antisemitism and discrimination.
This program is the result of an observation that applies to all European countries: many of the rifts that divide Europe today are directly linked to the Second World War, and in particular to the Holocaust. By taking the Holocaust as the starting point of our trainings, we are able to address sensitive contemporary issues (shared negative histories, divergent and/or conflicting memories) and to provide scientific evident to counter political narratives.
Supported by a European network of some 30 partners (Ministries, cultural institutions, teachers’ associations, etc.), the Holocaust as a Starting Point will develop more than a dozen trainings over the course of 2025.
A closer look at the training in Budapest (November 7th to 9th)
From November 7th to 9th, the 2nd edition of the training “the Holocaust as a Starting Point” between Hungary and Romania was held at the Up-Hotel in Budapest. Co-organized by the National Institute for Studying the Holocaust in Romania, the Zachor Foundation (Hungary) and the Mémorial de la Shoah (France), this training gathered 37 educators from Hungary and Romania.
This training was dedicated to teachers with a beginner’s knowledge of Holocaust education. The lecturers focused on giving the trainees key elements better to understand the Holocaust and its development in Europe, and more specifically in Hungary and in Romania. A whole session was dedicated to the Summer of 1941: the climax of the Holocaust under Romanian authority.
On the second day of the training, the whole group attended a guided visit of the Synagogue and Jewish district of Budapest. This visit allowed the group to understand Jewish life in Budapest and the fate of the Community during World War II.
